2013 RXV barely moves then locks up

I have a 2013 RXV with a Curtis controller that I had to get a new motor and motor brake for after pins on the axle snapped and allowed the motor to rotate back and forth until the connections broke.

I have everything back together but when the accelerator is pressed the cart barely moves and then locks up (make some noise). I can cycle the key off and on but then just does the same thing. The cart rolls freely in tow (no noise).

I thought after reading around that it could be the speed sensor. I've tried the one that came with the motor and one I bought not figuring one would come with it. Both still had the issue. Are the speed sensors that prone to failure?

Probably damaged wire in the encoder. They damage pretty easily, and with the motor swinging back & forth, likelihood of damage is high. Oops, I missed a couple of posts.

the later speed sensors (used on the Curtis versions) that have the inductive sensor on top of the motor are horrible. Worse than the old bearing encoder. Best thing about them is it only takes a second to replace vs. removing and taking the motor apart.

The new sensors are bad about moisture, be it water intrusion or high humidity. We've EOLd a few of them just from going from a warm garage storage building to frigid 12 degree outdoor temps.

With the newer Curtis RXVs, they don't usually do the 'grinding 1 mph failure' mode like the old Danaher cars did. They usually jerk around or have uneven speed issues, or lock up or don't run at all. Sometimes the Curtis handhelds will show 'Encoder fault' or 'Throttle wiper' (the latter will have you assuming it's in the pedal group when in reality it's the motor sensor). You can either replace it and hope that's it or use an oscilloscope.

UPDATE: I took the cart to an authorized EZGO dealer. After they did the diagnostics they determined it needed a new controller. The service tech told me he swapped in one they had and it was up and running. Their cost for the 235 amp was $1200 and $1700 for the 350 amp so I'm looking around to get one for a lot cheaper and put it in myself.
