Rear End Bounce/Vibration
Hello all,
I recently put new heavy duty rear leaf springs on my 06' TXT PDS with rear seat kit. The back previously sagged a lot due to the added weight of the seat kit and passengers. Now while driving without anybody the right rear bounces pretty good, even while on smooth/flat surfaces. With a load or passengers on the back it rides fine. Anybody know what could be causing this? Thanks |

Re: Rear End Bounce/Vibration
Probably the new stiffness of the leaf springs are not as forgiving as the old ones.

Look for an out of round tire. Seen that a lot with golf cart tires. If DOT they are much better though.

Re: Rear End Bounce/Vibration
I expected a stiffer ride but this is an aggressive bounce. It's almost as if I'm repeatedly going over small speed bumps. Only happens at higher speeds as well

I'll have to check on that. One of them does appear to have a slight bulge on the inside wall. I didn't experience any vibration or bounce prior to the new springs though

Re: Rear End Bounce/Vibration
I don’t know about bounce but I’ve read plenty of people talking about how stiff the hd springs are when not loaded. Most people recommend the dual action (think that’s the correct term) springs. I believe there’s a helper spring that engages as the weight is increased.

Re: Rear End Bounce/Vibration
Stock 18" cart tires are terrible for roundness/smoothness. They were intended for 12mph on a golf course, with stock suspension. I see this about every week. People running 19+ mph on the roads & hating the tires that were made for golf only. While you may not be running stock 18" tires, the tires you are running are likely your cause.

Re: Rear End Bounce/Vibration
Try putting the suspect tire up front to see if the bounce moves.

Re: Rear End Bounce/Vibration
Since you have a tire with a bulge in the sidewall, most likely that is the issue and will be proved when you move it to the front as suggested. Bounce will be felt more in the steering rather then entire cart.
Tire has had the flaw, just never noticed it till changing to stiffer springs that amplify road feel when carts unloaded. Tire psi can help some too if it’s too high. Few months ago replaced my worn out springs with dual action set since I rarely have rear passengers. Nice normal ride with just one or two in cart, but when adding rear passengers the extra wheight cause springs to compress just far enough so springs contact extra leaf that keeps cart from sagging under load but still rides normal. |
