Default Ezgo Txt 2000. Doesn't Like Slow Speeds At All

Got a 2000 ezgo txt pds 36v freedom enabled and when driving really slow.... like in the woods over grass, sticks, roots etc...the cart will sometimes become barely responsive at the throttle pedal. Fwd or reverse doesn't matter it feels like the batteries die.

This only happens to the cart after crawling really slow for a few minutes....then at random it feels like it's dead even with the pedal floored. To remedy it on the fly I turn off the cart wait a few seconds and turn it back on and it's fine normally for a little bit. But eventually it'll do it again. This only happens from an extended slow crawl, otherwise the cart performs normal.

What's this cart doing?

It sounds like the speed controller is going into thermal cutback due to the greater heat produced by the high amperage draw

Yep. Time for a new Alltrax controller, solenoid, and cables. You won’t regret it for a second!

What's the alltrax controller and solenoid gonna do for it?
I just put battery cables on it couple months ago.

Keep it from going into thermal cutback when driving at walking speeds or less, for extended periods of time/distance. Or at least it will until the stock PDS motor burns out.

What is the tire height? If they are over 18" tall, or you have a rear seat or platform for hauling stuff, the motor needs to be upgraded also.

Stock PDS controller has a 300A throughput and you can get Alltrax XCT controllers that will pass up to 500A (575A in peak mode) and are designed for that heat loading. Plus they are user programmable.

Will also kick the top speed up to about 24MPH on 18" tall tires, but can be RPM limited to a slower speed.

Hopefully, you replaced all ten of the high current cables instead of just the five connecting the six batteries together, and all ten cable ought to be 4Ga or thicker.

The stock PDS solenoid is only rated at 85A, which is marginal for a completely stock PDS.

4awg cables are on the batts...5 of them.... where do the other 5 go?

Tires are 22"

So a 500amp alltrax controller and solenoid.
New motor needed for this set up or no.?

The stock motor can be used with the Alltrax controller

1. As mentiopned, 5 cables connect the six 6V batteries in series tto create a 36V battery pack.
One cable connects Pack B- terminal to controller B- terminal
One cable connects Pack B+ terminal to solenoid's battery side large terminal.
One cable connects solenoid's controller side large terminal to controller's B+ terminal.
One cable connects controller's B+terminal to motor's A2 terminal.
One cable connects controller's A1 (aka M-) terminal to motor's A1 terminal.

2. Theoretically, with an XCT controller, a 22" tire height will up the top speed to about 29MPH, but there is also a 18% loss of torque, so the speed will be less than that in the real world.

3. If you go with an XCT48500-PDS controller and turn it down to 400A while using a stock PDS motor, the stock PDS motor might last for years.

Sepex motors don't like to run slow (they get hot) and with taller than stock tires the motor turns slower for any given speed. With stock (18") height tires the motor turns 232.307RPM per MPH and with 22" tall tires it turns 190.069RPM per MPH.

Stick with the stock PDS motor for now and if you decide the cart needs more torque, or the stock motor gets too hot from driving slow, replace it with one that has a longer case, which will dissipate more heat as well as being more powerful.

FWIW: A stock PDS motor is 8.5" from mounting face to endcap, less bulge for speed sensor. (see attached drawing)

The motor I'm running is essentially the same speed as a stock PDS motor with about 30% more torque. Its case length is 9.74", so it is about 1 1/4" longer than stock.

Excellent info.
Regarding the last 5 wires... is there a kit sold for this set of wires or specific lengths needed?
Haven't yet found any bonified replacement wires.
Thanks a ton.

The stock controller has been "run into the ground", it shouldn't be saved, even if it could be. It doesnt meet your usage characteristics at all (it was designed to "get by, for a game of golf, on stock sized tires"). The upgrades suggested will turn it into a "whole different machine", if your batteries dont suck at life. If they are lame too, the next weakest link will be quickly exposed.
