1995 Club Car DS Upgrade Gone Wrong
Hello all!
I have a 1995 Club Car DS 48-Volt Electric golf cart that I recently upgraded. I have installed 6 brand new Duracell 8-volt batteries with all brand new 4-gauge cables (getting/holding a charge but it takes a while), a brand new motor, a brand new Alltrax 500 amp controller and solenoid with all brand new 4-gauge wiring ( motor, controller and solenoid are a matched kit). I also replaced my forward/reverse switch with a heavy duty one. After installing all these brand new parts, golf cart takes off like a shot but then dies out after a few minutes. I still have a full 51.5 volts on the batteries (collectively) and I am pulling down to 50-49 volts when the cart takes off. I re-checked all my wiring is going to the right components using schematics and re-checked all wiring connections to ensure they are clean and tight. Not sure if I did something wrong or if there is something I overlooked when upgrading... maybe the potentiometer/MCOR needs to be replaced? |

Is there a reason you used 4 AWG cables rather than 2 AWG? I'm just wondering.

I don't know anything about that controller but what throttle signal does it require?
Factory 1995's had 2 types. |

When you say cart takes off like a shot do you mean there is no slow operation at the beginning of the pedal travel? If yes, the throttle setting in the control may not match the cart signal.

Hi CCNorth - All the cables that came with the upgrade kit were 4-gauge and all of the old cables were as well.

Hi scottyb - yes, it will jump and take off fast when I press on the accelerator about 1/4 of the way. Maybe the throttle needs to be calibrated with the controller? I've never done this before so I'm learning as I go.
