Should I get something newer?
Im fixing up my old 1982 marathon, got new batteries and made newcables and it runs fine, but I want to lift and put biggertires on it, and by doin that I will needed more power, my question is, should I stop working on this cart and find a newer one? Ill be using this cart at my lakehouse, so there are hills, I think either way it will need 48 volt system.
At this point,i have nothing invested in this cart, but I know iwill if I wanna make it nice and powerful What year and model is the best to upgrade if u had your choice |

Re: Should I get something newer?
the newer the better, but really any series cart after about 96 will be good. in 2001 they changed the steering for the better? lots of upgrades for these controller carts.

Re: Should I get something newer?
To me this would depend on the overall condition of your cart. I would weigh what the upgrades to it would cost vs the price of a newer cart with those upgrades. I'd do some searching through the sponsors ( top of page ) and see what parts and accessories are available for your cart. You'll have a much more informed idea this way!

Re: Should I get something newer?
1982 Marathon has the motor sticking out into the battery bay area. After 86 Ezgo turned & mounted the motor above the rear axle like it sits today in every other cart. There is a conversion kit available for the later Marathons with sideways motors. This kit allows conversion to modern Solid State speed control & opens the door to all the upgrade goodies for your drive system allowing you to go to 48v. After that the sky's the limit.
For what you want to do, I would sell the cart and get a newer platform for your project. |

Re: Should I get something newer?
kenny, mine is 98 series. i think you should shy away from a dcs. the series is better for crawling, and torque. the pds will give you more speed?, but doesn't like slow, r.e., hunting, etc. only mentioned mine because it is a good example of what you can do with an older cart. gorno, has a similar one that runs great, and it is a 97.
