Electric EZGO older model won't take charge
I have an older EZGO golf cart. It is 36V and I am having a hard time charging it. It used to take a charge for and stay charged for several hours. Now it shows the ampheres all the way up on the charger and seems like the charger is trying to work harder than normal. I let it charge for about a half an hour and then the betteries start to feel warm. I do not think this is normal. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks |

Re: Electric EZGO older model won't take charge
Welcome Charles, The problem you are describing is usually caused by one or more 'bad' batteries. You will need a voltmeter and a hydrometer for batteries; the needle type not the floating balls type. Then you can test individual voltage and specific gravity. Post that info here and we can what you are working with battery-wise.

Is there a way to work around a bad battery or must it be replaced?

Re: Electric EZGO older model won't take charge
Unless all the batteries in the battery pack are in useable condition, you have something more akin to a boat anchor than a golf cart.
Measure the individual battery voltages and post them. Fully charged they should be about 6.37V each, or about 38.2 for the entire pack. |

Re: Electric EZGO older model won't take charge
That's like asking if there's a way to get your car running smooth with bad gasoline in the tank. Get the logic? The batteries all work together, one bad one will drag the whole pack down.
