Reverse fine won't go Forward
Just replaced Forward / Reverse switch, 1 of the copper bolts broke on the switch, tested it will go in reverse and move but when moving selector switch located in the middle of the body the only thing you hear is the solenoid switch kicking on however no power to the wheels, all cables to the new forward/reverse switch look fine. that switch is located on the passenger side of the cart, controlled by a rod that moves it to forward or reverse, the batteries are only 1 yr old , however I just stuck it on the charger again after reading low battery power can sometimes do this. I had this problem before it would reverse then trying to go forward it would act dead then all of a sudden jump forward , it was working fine. What else can I look for , or how would you jump the solenoid to test if thats the problem. any help would be great

Re: Reverse fine won't go Forward
Welcome to BGW
If it moves okay in one direction it should move okay in the other..... reason being 99% of the parts that move it backward - move it forward. If - if the solenoid clicks when you try to go forward just like it does when it goes forward but it fails to move .... and it is a series cart with the rotary (OEM) type F&R switch then it's very likely you are loosing contact in the F&R . Prove it to yourself - swap the 2 cables on the back of the F&R at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions... if you r problem reverse direction but still only goes in one direction then the F&R is pretty sure your culprit... Be sure you have tightened the F&R center nut (9/16) that tensions the contacts.... to the point of getting hard to shift. If it still fails to go... replace it with somebody's F&R that has 60% more amperage handling and cooling capacity than anybody else's F&R. |

Re: Reverse fine won't go Forward
I was thinking the same thing, but i didnt want to have my head bitten off for suggesting a problem with the new F&R. I always inspect any new f&r board, and usually end up sanding new f&r cams perfectly flat on glass & sandpaper to ensure maximum contact surface area. Ever seen how "uneven" the contact surfaces are on "new" f&r cams? I have glass with sandpaper that shows instantly how bad they are. I have been considering making a video of the process i do, but i have no "fancy cameras" and it would be impossible to hold my phone to video while i do it. I also feel that the nut on the pivot was intended to be tightened until it stops, never loosened to make shifting easier (if its hard to shift, that indicates f&r troubles).

Re: Reverse fine won't go Forward
Thanks to both replies, I did what you suggested , switched cable positions and it did work in forward position but no reverse. Knowing the board and cam was brand new I took it apart again and carefully sanded copper position bolts and contacts then assembled and low and behold it worked. thanks so much for suggestions on how to repair.

Re: Reverse fine won't go Forward
Having the same problem. Brand new F&R switch because I could go in reverse and not forward. I previously had swapped the 9 and 3 cables then I could for forward and not reverse. So I replaced the F&R. What am I missing?

Re: Reverse fine won't go Forward
You have a bad controller. It is only putting out in one direction. Swapping the 3 and 9 cables at the F&R simply swaps the motor current direction so the run problem is in the opposite direction but the control still only putting out in one direction.

Re: Reverse fine won't go Forward
That’s what I was afraid of. Any recommendations? I’m seeing quite a few options out there including upgrading Amps. Mine is a 36v but would love a bit more torque as I feel my cart is fairly sluggish when going up hills. Thanks for all the help!!

Re: Reverse fine won't go Forward
Replaced the controller and the F&R switch and can still only go in reverse. Starting to lose my mind on this.

Re: Reverse fine won't go Forward
Yeah no doubt. The only variables left are the S1 and S2 cables. Physically swap the cables (both ends) and tell us if the problem is fixed or changes direction.
