That should not be a problem, the 1ma LED is guaranteed to produce a certain brightness level at 1ma, but they have an average of 20ma and max peak of 300ma like most LEDs.

Looking at the IF curve of a regular LED, at that low current they may not even forward bias below 60F temperature.

Plus we are talking about 60cents investment to make sure they will be bright.

I build lasers (for special effects in the sci-fi motion picture industry) and current regulation is how we drive solid state lasers. Too many hobbyists overdrive them to get more output and end up destroying them in the process. Gotta love LEDs, so much simpler.
