Question Inherited a 2001 EzGo Cart - where to start? Batteries beeping!

Hello everyone!
I've been reading these posts for several days now and thought I would post myself with some questions.

I recently inherited my grandmothers 2001 EzGo cart (she had just purchased it 3 months ago for $2,000 but was never even rode it once before she passed away).

The seats & body are in pretty bad shape but I think its all cosmetic. What concerns me is the beeping! From my research the codes mean "Low Voltage issue".

My husband and I don't know much about cars or repairing them and I'm wondering if I'm in over my head with this cart. Part of me would love the project of getting it all fixed up... but is that a money pit? Should I just sell it to a vendor I know for around $1,000 and then have him sell me a tricked out one for around $4,500 - $5,000. I hate to spend that kind of money on a cart when I have one for free... but is mine really free?

Thoughts?

Check and see if you have water about 1/4" above the battery plates. If not add water and plug the charger in to see if it will charge.

First, try several back-to-back charges. But only after checking the battery water. (Batteries want distilled water, just above the plates you see down in the holes). Do you have a digital volt meter? If so, take a reading from each battery & post the numbers here. If you don't have one, plan on getting one if you see yourself repairing or maintaining any electric golf cart. I would guess you could build what you are wanting spending alot less money than buying one. If you are handy at all, this might be a project for you, it doesn't sound like it needs too much.

Our's is Sepex based on that image. We have the toggle switch that looks like a light switch on the right.

i would stick with what you got-2000$ ahead...what are you needing/wanting the cart to do? do you want a hot rod? off roader? cruiser? low rider?
how fast do you need it to go?
the mods you do from here on will be predicated by your wants/needs.....
2500 to 3000 will get you a lot depending on what you need-we can help direct you if you have a target...
PDS carts are very good and versatile-if it were mine it would be a keeper....

2001 PDS
This is a great cart.
You can upgrade this cart for little money compared to getting a new one.
A new Alltrax XCT 400a speed control will get it going 23mph for WAY LESS $ than you are talking about. And you can increase voltage or add a speed motor for even more performance later.
