DPI Gen IV Questions
I just installed a DPI Gen IV on a neighbors 2014 RXV. It seems to be working but it doesn't illuminate the green charge LED on the cart. Is that normal?
Also, anyone know what the float voltage should be? 52 volts or so? I've used their older chargers before on club cars but this is the first time with this charger and on an EZGO cart. |

The green LED on the cart will not illuminate with a DPI charger. That is normal.

Re: DPI Gen IV Questions
They really need to rewrite that manual. It says in the manual that the green light comes on when the batteries are charged and in the float mode.

Re: DPI Gen IV Questions
The green light On the charger, the led on the cart has nothing to do with DPI, or their manual.

Re: DPI Gen IV Questions
Update: The charger wasn't going into the trickle charge mode so I called DPI to ask them why or if there was a different dip switch setting for it. I was told that this Gen IV charger doesn't have the trickle charge that keeps the batteries hot. Is that the case?

Looking at the instructions and the schematics it looks like the R models have the relay and the smaller Q models don't. The instructions say if it has the relay it will disconnect A/C power and Float and If it doesn't have the relay it will go to maintenance mode. Maintenance mode seems to be the trickle charge mode on the Gen IV chargers. |

Re: DPI Gen IV Questions
Guess we are back to explaining the difference of "trickle" and "float" as it pertains to batteries. Float is what you want, it is applying enough current to meet but not exceed a target voltage (above "at rest" & below gassing voltage). Trickle applies a certain amount of current, without a predetermined target voltage to meet or stop increase at. Trickle is undesirable because it can (and likely will) push the batteries into gassing voltage. Above gassing voltage is when electrolytes are consumed, and with no one around to keep the fluid levels up, your batteries will be destroyed.
