New wheels-studs too short

First photo is front wheel-I replaces lug with an acorn nut to see if it was long enough and the front is fine.

This photo is the rear which is the issue
The threads don’t even make it through the acorn nut.




Can someone measure the length of thread sticking out from a stock rear brake drum? My cart has 3/4” sticking out as shown here but maybe they were changed(don’t know why)

If I remove the drum and measure the studs, I find that they are 1.5" total length including the head. My research tells me these are factory length so now I am very confused.

The front hubs are fine and leave plenty of thread to bolt the wheels on. The rears need approx another 1/4" of threads if not 1/2" more.

I guess I can try to source 2" lugs but I would still like to know if these are stock length.

Here is a picture of a stock lug bolt.(front) Notice it has 1 inch of thread. Maybe yours are not seated in the drum all the way. It might need some help perhaps with air tools. Grrrr

You will need studs with 1.5" of threaded portion. I think a 2" overall length stud will work for you.

Carry one of the old studs and the new chrome nuts with you to Advance Auto parts. They should be able to help you out.

If you take the drums along, some stores will even press the new ones in for you.

Thanks for the pic. So it appears that my bolts are stock which doesn’t explain why the wheels don’t fit.

I’ll go out to check to see if they are fully seated into the axle housings.

Had trouble finding a 2” long 1/2-20 stud with the correct knurl diameter. Stock shows .535 knurl diameter. I found a perfect replacement but it is .563 diameter knurl.

I am thinking I could press them in fine as the difference is marginally larger.

I even had the thought that I could hand file them down a bit if they are too tight to make the knurl closer to .535

Any thoughts?

Never mind-just found a perfect replacement 2” long.

Autozone carries a trailer stud for Carry All trailers part #522. It is 1/2-20 and 2” overall length. It has the same knurl diameter and should fit perfect.
They come in a 4 pack
