Noob performing fire restoration- so close yet so far
2007 Precedent IQ, 4x12
I started this build thread: Project...Dumpster Fire? Crispy Cart? Burnt up to Turn't up? I repaired the fire damage to the harness using a spare harness. The damage was actually very minimal. I tossed it back together for testing. Referenced pics and diagrams, checked, rechecked and checked again before connecting the batteries. The key switch isn't working and the Tow/Run switch was cooked, so I'm using a jumper for the key switch and clamping the bare wires for the Tow/Run switch since it's higher amperage. I have the rear up on jack stands. It didn't run in "Forward", but did run in reverse and it accelerated with the pedal. Somewhere around 1/2-3/4 throttle (roughly estimating), it shut down and doesn't respond to the pedal. I looked up how to reset the OBC and performed that procedure twice, but just found on here that I have a Sepex/regen cart and the reset procedure is a little different. So, maybe there's still hope. I thought maybe the batteries were low and that 5 seconds in reverse finished them off. When I dropped the batteries in last night, two were high 11V and two were low 12V. All connected, I'm showing 47.xxV. I hooked up the charger and it was around 52V when I walked outta the shop almost an hour ago. Based on the events, does it sound like low voltage made it shut down? Anything else I should check? |

... So, after browsing the stickies, I see that my 47V is really low. Also, I guess I should charge each battery fully, independently, before connecting them in series to the cart? Can a regular automotive battery charger be used for this? I have a large roll-around charger/starter unit as well as a tiny low-amperage charger/maintainer desulfator. Charge at high (10A) first, then reduce and maintain/desulfate?

If you have a 4x12v set up that car battery charger will be fine for charging each battery separately. If you get them even 50% each you can hook them back up on the cart charger.
