Default DS parking brake won’t set

I just did a search without any success, a million matches with the word Brake but not what I need. I have a DS that all of a sudden will not set the parking brake, can anyone help with where I should begin

Look underneath at the linkages and notches where the pawl sets. It could simply have debris in the notch (been there) or the spring could have broken or gotten knocked out.

Surely it is something simple but impossible to say what without being there. You’ll have to inspect the pedal assembly drone above and below while someone tries to operate it, and see what’s not falling into place. It’s not a complicated mechanism

Does the gas pedal have side to side "wiggle"? The gas pedal swings on a pivot rod that is held in place by a couple bushings pressed into plates. When those bushings get too worn the pedal shaft wallows around a bit and won't let the teeth on the parking pawl catch like they should. If you DO have that side to side play, you can try pulling the gas pedal up toward you with your hand while setting the parking brake with your foot. If that allows the parking brake to set, you almost certainly need those bushings replaced.
