Field wire broke off stud
Bought an 86 DS cheap. Owner replaced wire to field connection and twisted stud and field wire broke off inside. I have it apart and looks like clean break. I need a new stud and a method to reattach field wire. What type of method can I use to attach wire to new stud?

Re: Field wire broke off stud
I'm not sure how to repair them or if it would hold up if you did a generic plumbing type solder.
I have had to deal with this issue in the past and it was $28.00 to take it to a motor shop for repair. I think he silver soldered the square broken field wire and installed a new stud/insulator kit. |

Re: Field wire broke off stud
On a series motor the field wire needs to be brazed to the stud. Usually not too expensive to take it to an alternator/starter repair shop and get them to do it.

Re: Field wire broke off stud
Being I live in the country there are no shops around that do this kind of repair. I do know how to braze but was concerned with the tape type insulation used on the field wire to stud. Any idea what kind of tape that would be? Looks like cloth surgical tape.
