That commutator needs resurfacing. It's not smooth and shiny like it should be. You can try to do it yourself but you might want to find a motor shop that can turn it for you.

Will some sand paper or something like that do the trick? Ideally just need the motor to last me a few months lol

a file and sandpaper might clean it up some but I can tell from your pix that it is severely pitted and far from it's normal smooth condition.

I usually hold it by the armature and lightly tap the aluminum housing with a hammer alternating sides and it will usually come out of the bearing where you can get to it.

Thanks I will try this. Do you use a hammer or mallet?

Dead-blow or non-marring type hammer/mallet.

Also helps the warm the aluminum housing with a heat gun or hair dryer.

You can use a 3-jaw 8 inch gear puller. Good tool to have for all kinds of projects. Pulled the same bearing out a week ago with it. It made what looked like the toughest job of my project into the easiest. Replaced a washing machine bearing not long ago too. Probably 35 dollars or so at amazon. Think I got mine much cheaper at harbor freight or somewhere like that.

That looks like it would work perfect, thanks! I was thinking something like this to rent from Autzone, but $15 at harbor freight I will just go buy one. I need a bigger tool box lol.

Anything I need to know about putting it back together?

I'm not there yet. My bearing is supposed to come in today. Good news tho, all them bolts on the puller need only be hand tight. I break mine down to get it in a tool box drawer.

I ordered brushes and a new bearing off Amazon - 2 day shipping, gotta love it lol. Hopefully this gets me in working order. The rest of the cart is ready to go back together.
