Hub/spindle question for TXT/ST
Hi all,
I have an 01 TXT that was remanufactured in 08. It lives at the beach, and due to rust issues I decided to completely take it apart and see what I was dealing with. I am a little bit puzzled by the front suspension. I appear to have ST Sport hub/spindle assemblies, and an unknown axle style lift kit. The assemblies are rusty, but possibly recoverable. Can they be disassembled? It is not immediately obvious how the hub comes off the spindle. I also considered just going back to stock TXT components, but will that even work? It seems like these spindles provide the mounting point for the steering assembly (and tie rod) at the correct height with the lift. Mine look exactly like part number 70930G01. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated!! Thanks. |

Is the steering box mounted to the frame or axle?

It is 4 bolt steering, the steering box is mounted to the axle.

Ok, I got it. The cap was just very hard to remove. I can see the castle nut holding the hub to the spindle. It is large. Anyone know what size it is?? I do not seem to have a socket that fits.

Re: Hub/spindle question for TXT/ST
once you remove the cap, then the cotter pin, then take the castle nut off.....the hub should just slide off as its mounted on the spindle with Timken bearings.

Re: Hub/spindle question for TXT/ST
Ok, finally got them off! How can I tell if I should re-use the bearings and races, or are these just always replace kind of items?

Re: Hub/spindle question for TXT/ST
Clean the grease off of them and look for rust pitting in the rollers and race surfaces.
Any chance you heard any unusual noises when it was together? If the grease and bearings/races look clean then you should be alright.? Repack and assemble. |
