Default 6 volt batteries reading 8.4 volts

Hi..02 EZGO txt..series..36 volt. Cart shudders while depressing accelerator. Checked cables..cleaned them even though they looked fine. Each battery is testing at 8.3 to 8.4 volts. Fully charged..let set for 24 hours..no use. Pack reads 53.5 volts. Jacked up cart for load test(I understand it should be driven on road for proper load..just wanted a quick test)..all batteries drop to 8.1 or so..pack voltage drops to 51.2. There are 6-6 volt batteries..2016 Trojans..they were dry when I picked up the cart..hasn’t been on the road for 5 years. Maybe my cheap tester I’d having issues. FSIP 700 amp controller..hd solenoid..8 hp admiral motor. Cart is pretty slow..and shudders on throttle. Any thoughts? Thanks

That pack should not be that high. Check your batteries in your tester.. How many caps per battery?

Are you sure those aren't 8 volt batteries? Someone may have already converted your cart to 48 volts. From your other post, you have a 48v controller....

Sounds like you just got this cart.

You probably have 8v batteries... Six 8v batteries should be around 50 to 51v Are there three watering ports on the top of each battery or four? If there are four watering ports on top of each one they're 8V batteries.

I don't know if you could get a 6v battery up to 8.3v as it would probably boil all the electrolyte out of it before it got that high.

Also, if it is a 36v charger it wouldn't get up to 53v. IIRC the 36v chargers turned off around 44 or 46v.

It’s gotta be my cheap tester..as my tester is testing pack voltage..it is slowly increasing. Weird as heck.

Does the battery symbol in the display's lower left mean the meter's battery is weak?

Put new batteries in the meter and see what it reads and how it acts.

Each battery..6 of them..6.25 to 6.27
Pack voltage..37.3.

I think I win a dunce cap for that one!
Thank you JohnnieB!👍🏻
Will test the load tomorrow morning..maybe the stutter IS a bad cell.

What JohnnieB said!!! Cheapo meters tend to read high if the battery in them is low. Replace the battery in your meter and try again.

In defense of the El Cheapo multi-meters, when their batteries are good, most of them are as accurate as the workbench grade meters we used only a couple decades ago.
