Default 95 club car ds

I have my neighbors 95 club car ds. The cart will go a couple of feet in either direction. Checked each battery and the average voltage is 8.2. Once the cart moves then it starts to shudder. Any ideas? Thanks

Batteries are dead for starters.

Fix that before troubleshooting anything else.

Just did a load test 5 good batteries good. 1 failed completely. Strange because it volt tests at 8.2.

That’ll do it

Static voltage and loaded voltage are very different things.

The others at 8.2 aren’t exactly “happy” though either. That’s around 60% state of charge, which is basically dead. Should be 8.5v per battery. Low voltage generally is the cause of the shudder.

I’d double check all the water levels and maybe try and give them a good charge. I’m guessing it’s been sitting for a while, they may be shot. Depending on the age of them, might be time for new batteries. If you’re just trying to see if the cart works, you could science them a bit and make them work just to get some movement out of it. But regardless I’d say it’s probably battery shopping time.

Sometimes you can do a couple of full (overnight charges) back to back (with 12 hrs in between)and the batteries may revive some. But as CP said, it's probable new battery time :(

Thanks for the fast reply. The cart had stopped on the golf course. Not sure how many holes had been played when it stopped. I will charge all batteries individually and report back. Thanks

How/why are you going to do this?

I cleaned all connections and charged each battery with a trickle charger. 5 batteries are at 8.5 one will not get above 8 volts. When I did the load test that battery failed completely.

A trickle charge is insufficient. Deep cycle golf cart batteries need bulk replenishment at 10% of their AH capacity. Or 18-20 amps depending upon the battery model. Repeated lower amperage charging will cause early failure due to stratification

Trickle charge? Post what kind of charger (golf cart charger) you have been using in the past.
