Default Uncommon key switch vs kill switch

I'm thinking about how to best prevent theft of my club car. Seems a popular choice is to install a hidden kill switch. But I wonder if installing just an uncommon key switch does just the same. My rational is that in order to steal a golf, the theif would need a comon key to at least get past the first obstacle, in this case a backup kill switch makes sense to me. But if I instead install just an uncommon key switch, the theif will not be able to get past the first obstacle, making the kill switch unnecessary. Of course if the theif is determind and removes the panel to hotwire the switch, again, the kill switch seems of little use to me. Does my logic hold water, or am I missing some other scenario where a kill switch can deter theft?

A well hidden kill switch is probably a bit more effective but anything is better than the common key switch that you find on most carts.

I know this might sound crazy, but the uncommon key is common. All of them have the number 1A on them. So they are a common, uncommon key. I did read about a keyless start for the golf cart that uses a push combination keypad but it goes for over $200.

They make passive entry key systems you can get it on Amazon for about $30. I put the receiver ring on the bottom of my cup holder and when I throw the rfid keychain in the key holder just press the start button like a car and it turns on ready to go.

I ended up taking it out but it did work well.

I used a hidden kill switch in my car for years back in the 70's after it was stolen from our work parking lot. :-( Effective and simple.

I like this idea. Was yours a gas with 12v battery or 36/48v electric? Mine is 48v so not sure yet if that will work as they are designed for 12v. I'll do a little research.

It was in my 48v DS. I just wired it through my 12v converter and wired the converter to a switch in the dash. If I was still running the old 4x12v I would have probably just run the push button kit to one of the batteries, it only pulls a few mA.

I use a barrel key and a kill switch off the controller.
