Looking for feedback on converting resistor coil set up.
'93 Club Car DS
I am currently planning to replace the existing 36V Resistor Coil / V-glide set up with a solid state system. As of right now, the plan is to use... 36V 400A 0-5K DC Series Control Module 36V SW180 400A Solenoid 36V HD F&R Lever/Switch Convert existing V-glide to Solid State 0-5K (Incremental Potentiometer) 2 Gauge Wiring 36V 96Ah Li-Ion Battery I imagine this set up should increase the speed and torque over the stock set up alone, and then with the possible addition of an upgraded dc series motor, should suffice with increased speed and much better torque for inclines and hills... and anticipating it to still be cheaper than going with a complete Navitas system, or the like. Thoughts? |

MrIncredibell look into cartsunlimited on the sponsor page, Scottyb is an active and respected member and sells a kit pretty much like your describing :)

I recommend Scotty's IQ conversion. If you are doing all that work you might as well go to 48V as it is more efficient than 36V. I just changed my club car from resistor to the IQ and it is much better.

Go to 48 volts for sure!

Re: Looking for feedback on converting resistor coil set up.
Change all those 36’s to 48’s and you’ll be cooking with gas on the fire
If you’ve got the v glide I don’t know that you really need a “kit”. You can rewire the v glide with the resistors (info on the oem size resistors used in these v glides is out there). The rest is pretty basic wiring I would consider a forward/reverse contactor setup instead of HD FNR switch though. Better power transfer and less failure prone. Scotty does have those. |

Re: Looking for feedback on converting resistor coil set up.
My main reason with not going with a conversion kit is cost. The speed controller, solenoid, wiring, resistors for v-glide conversion, etc... $500-$600 as opposed to $1200-$2000. I already have the 36V 96Ah Li-Ion Battery. I am not against going 48V, as I can easily reconfigure my Battery Pack to a 48V set up, it just results in less amp hours, and would run it through the 36V series motor until I am able to purchase a new motor. Even going that route, its cheaper then a kit, and all I really sacrifice is Bluetooth monitoring and programming.

Re: Looking for feedback on converting resistor coil set up.
Another happy customer of Carts Unlimited. We did the whole conversion from v-glide to solid state, 36v to 48v. Best thing we could have done. We installed the C42 package. Including the few parts that we needed it was under $900 and we essentially have a brand new cart that will last years! NO MORE RESISTOR HEADACHES.

Since you're doing a conversion don't overlook your AC option. There are a lot of benefits of going to a modern AC drive system, you'll get BOTH speed and torque! The cost is about the same either way.
