It looks a lot like a 1960's Cushman Golfster. I can't make out the model and serial number. Are the numbers legible?

Sorry for the delay in responding. The numbers are visible, Model 1000 / Serial 10608. Few more pictures.

I am going to see if I can pick up a set of 6v batteries and a set of cables this week and see what happens.

Man, I have a '68 Golfster and that doesn't look it at all. Golfsters have a F / R lever between the seats that looks like a shifter on a manual shift car. The guts don't look similar to the Cushman's either.

There is a decent chance that your cart is a standard old golf cart (can't say which one for sure) that has an aftermarket "car-like" body placed on it.

There is a Facebook page dedicated to old carts called aptly enough "Vintage Golf Carts" that you may want to join on post up in as well. There are a few folks in there who really know these old carts. There is also a "restoration" section right here on BGW that you may want to post in.

By the way, I am with you. I like the old carts way more than the new ones and own:

Mid 40's Worthington Champ 3 wheel
'60 Kelsen Sports Rider 3 wheel
'67 Pargo 3 wheel
'68 Cushman Golfster 3 wheel
'74 Club Car Caroche 4 wheel
'83 Columbia 3 wheel
'85 Columbia 3 wheel
'85 Columbia 4 wheel
'91 EZ Go Shuttle

My "new" cart is a 2003 DS
