Removing frozen foot pedal bolts for MCOR access
I need to replace the MCOR on my 2018 Precedent. The left two bolts are very rusted as we are near the ocean. One immediately stripped out the torx when I tried to remove it. I’m presently bathing them in break away, but I was hoping someone might have suggestions. I know they are extremely long so if I cut the heads I can’t imagine drilling them out, and if I do cut the heads I don’t know if there will be any stubs left to get a pair of vise grips on. Unfortunately I don’t own a torch… not sure if my butane cigar torch might help? Thanks…

Re: Removing frozen foot pedal bolts for MCOR access
Are these the bolts that hold the pedal mount plate to the floor?
Cut a notch in the head with a cutting wheel and see if they might loosen with a large flat-head screwdriver, or just cut the heads off. There should be enough stub sticking up to get vice grips on. I'm pretty sure those just go into plastic, so a torch is not a good idea, but it does mean if you can get them to pop loose then replacing them will be easy. |

Re: Removing frozen foot pedal bolts for MCOR access
It is those bolts. The right side were easy, the left side were totally rusted. Thanks I’ll give that a try. I watched Wayne Martin’s YouTube video How To Install An MCOR and the bolts are extremely long. I have a feeling that in the end I will have to cut the heads off. It’s just that it is recessed opening that the plate sits in, so I don’t know if I will have much room to get vise grips on unless it leaves a good size stub. I can’t really see what it looks like with the pedals removed in the video.

Re: Removing frozen foot pedal bolts for MCOR access
Neither Dewalt (which I have) nor Milwaukee is gonna help here. The screws are Torx head, so they must act like little pools for moisture to gather in. They both immediately stripped out. I cut slots and tried using a big screwdriver but they were pretty much welded in with rust. I ended up cutting off the heads to remove the pedal pan. Then I drilled out the screws the best I could, and proceeded to break off a tap trying to tap them for screws. Then I proceeded to drive the cart over my head to put myself out of my misery.
I did manage to tap one of the holes, so three screws will have to do. |
