Default Pushing the stock PDS motor at 48V

How much can I push the stock motor (Advanced D.C. Motors DE8-4001) on a 2001.5 EZGO TXT PDS at 48V with a 400A Alltrax?

I have almost a year in pushing it hard with the Alltrax 400A controller on my dying 36V FLA bank with the RPMs capped in settings at 22 MPH on stock tires. I just swapped to 48V with a new Lithium pack and have been enjoying the extra power on hills, but I seem to be capping out closer to 20 MPH and never bouncing off the governor now.

I am concerned that I may be quickly damaging this motor. After the LiFePo4 upgrade, my budget needs at least a year before making the decision between a new DC motor and a full AC swap. I am looking into dialing back the performance for a bit of longevity if required. Does anyone have feedback on this?

PDS motors do not do well on 48 volts. They generally overreact and work themselves to death soon. How soon depends upon a number of things, like history, and driver habits. Start saving for an Admiral B4

Buy the Admiral B4 NOW and sell what’s left of the stock motor B4 you kill it completely!

How does the Admiral B4 do with hills and top speed? I am on 18 inch tires and don't need to go over 25 MPH.

The 14 hp B4 Admiral motor is a long stack high torque 62 pound beast that will pull your cart up the tree at the top of a hill if you get enough traction.

No comparison to the 2.5 hp stock motor. Speed will be 6000 rpm max. 22-23mph assuming alltrax control. Higher speeds on taller tires. I'm hitting 25 on 20s -
The new Uno Lithium pack is taking it's first charge in my B4 powered cart as I post. So I expect the added voltage (51v) will increase top end a wee bit.

The question for me will be the MAD limit. I collected a monitor file in the Ezgo before I pulled the batteries and it did breah 200 amps under max load but the voltage was dropping to 40-42v at that time. We will see - I have my fingers crossed.

Are you testing out another brand of Lithium? I am curious about how they compare to EcoBattery. That motor definitely has all of the torque I am likely to need and enough speed to get me around.

Now if only the budget part would cooperate...

I was asking UNO about their new battery technology and I said I would be interested in checking out their battery sort of head to head with my very similar Eco powered cart. Which by the way is doing fabulous. But supply has been challenging.

It will be fun to collect monitor files and see how the 2 batteries compare.

@Capt. Lenny After pushing this motor to 20 MPH+ for almost a year with the Alltrax controller, and I don't think that I could ethically sell it to anyone. I put around 40 miles on it at 48V yesterday.

@scottyb Does the Admiral support regen? I have seen some replacement motors that advertise "no regen" like a marketable feature, but I like the feature.

Even if you can get $100 out of it it is $100 less you have to pay for an upgrade. Not everybody in need of a motor can afford a $700 motor. Just a suggestion before you kill it, then it would be a Boat anchor.

One more extremely important question:

If the stock motor dies, what is the danger of other components being taken out during the failure? Is it more likely to fail open or to short?
