Default EZGO TXT - something’s stripped

Morning All,

Todays pop quiz question. Is my motor spline coupler or input shaft stripped? Or a lil of both? I’m afraid it’s both = more time, money and effort. The cart will start moving then start buzzing. Best pics I can get.

I’ve been out of the game for a while but recently noticed the price of carts has gone bananas in my area. Crazy.

Thanks in advance and have a great weekend.

Honestly the splines on both sides look fine.

You say it will start to buzz? Wondering if you don't have a brushes issue.

RYAN....both look fine.....HOWEVER, I would be willing to bet what your problem is that your wheel hub/drum is stripped. its a very common problem. the axel is very hard and the hub/drum is soft cast iron.....pop the drivers side off and look at THOSE splines. bet you will find them about gone. IF SO, get yourself a new hub/drum,and remember to put a little antiseize on the spline and ensure you torque the axel nut to 95 - 145 ftlbs.

Thanks guys good thoughts. I’d already checked hubs and they are good, surprisingly. Pulled motor apart and brushes/springs looked awesome. Been replaced probably. Put on a good known motor just in case and same.

Looking like it may be in the pumpkin. Gonna pull the pan and maybe the axels to visual all the teeth. I really don’t want to learn how to change gears out but it’s about the last thing I’ve never done.

Thx again for the replies. I’ll update later this afternoon. Cheers

Pulled the pan. Stinky as hell. Besides that all looked good visually with the teeth in all of the gears. I’m at a loss and all ears for suggestions. Thx

Like what was stated earlier. It sure sounds like a stripped hub

Try to run it with the pan off. When it's "buzzing" and not pulling, see if the ring gear is turning. If it is then the slipping is occurring between there and the hubs. If the ring gear is NOT turning, then the slipping is between ring gear and motor. It's a place to start. Narrow it down.

I agree with everyone else, sounds like the hubs even though you already checked them. And the motor splines look great. Did you check both hubs/drums? If it comes down to replacing the drums I would suggest going to the 2 piece style, they seem to be better constructed and more durable. Could possibly be the spline on the other end of the axle but I've never seen those go bad.

I had an EZGO in the shop that displayed similar symptoms that turned out to be a poor terminal connection at a battery. Looked OK externally, showed voltage meter, but when you tried to pass enough current to drive the cart it would "buzz" and break contact. Oxidation between the cable end and the lead of the terminal.
