Re: Seat hinges
I would be hesitant to undo the upholstery - once it has been pulled tight, stapled, and trimmed you are not gonna get it back the same as it was if you cut it loose... I have covered a few seats. Use the machine threaded bolts and perfect size holes suggested.
After the install is complete remove the screws one at a time and reinstall with locktight. (if it was mine...) |

Re: Seat hinges
Put some Velcro Tape on the body and the seat bottom and be done with it. No holes to drill and no screws

Re: Seat hinges
LOL, well, I just mounted the hinge bottoms and glued in the seat. I used silicone instead of epoxy. I thought a flexible bond may hold up better to being removed. Now I gotta wait 12 hours for it to harden......

Re: Seat hinges
Well, this worked pretty good! Note the silicone (white) that I spread on the hinge face. Now I know, this is exactly where the hinges go! Now, Iwill carefully drill the holes, then remove the hinge and the silicone, and then mount the hinge permanently!

Re: Seat hinges
I knew if we kicked around long enough you would come up with a plan. When you get done with the hinges put a finish on that raw plywood bottom before it starts soaking up the Acidic Vapors - Looks like some well done upholstery.

Re: Seat hinges
Late to the show but maybe someone else can use this. I mounted the body portion and riveted it down. Then I placed the seat portion in the body portion as I wanted it to seat. I then used a pencil, to mark the seat portion, by drawing along the edge of the seat.
Lif the seat off, remove the seat part of the hinge, place the seat part on the seat bottom and realign the pencil mark. The proper location of the holes is now ready to mark. |
