Ezgo Charger unknown and parts?
Hi Everyone,
We use a 1992 marathon electric cart at our work, the buggy still works fine albeit a bit slower than it used to be.. But recently have run into problems with charging, i have a feeling the plug might have been put in backwards and reversed polarity but unsure (plug was damaged) any ideas where to check? Also it uses an old ezgo textron automatic charger, its just plain white and doesnt say much more on it except the S/N: 8410367. Had trouble fin ding a diagram for it and doesnt seem to have a capacitor like most. Unfortuanately while i was testing the diodes and transformer i managed to break off a leg on a part im unsure of... i have attached some pics of the part and charger. Tried contacting a local store but they didnt recognise it. Any help would be much appreciated Cheers Ross |

Re: Ezgo Charger unknown and parts?
Thankyou!
If you look in the first pic you will see a hole in the lower middle of the heatsink where it attaches. Its connected to the circuit breaker off one terminal and a small controll board of some sort off the other. Cheers! Ross |

Re: Ezgo Charger unknown and parts?
I think that part was originally supposed to be a diode, not a SCR. SCRs are usually found in newer, more advanced "microprocessor controlled" chargers. Some of the folks around here have the service books for these chargers, maybe that info will pop up.

Re: Ezgo Charger unknown and parts?
The key information is in the second picture.
Bottom of black label reads: "Input: 230 VOLTS, 4Amps, 50Hz" The silver label indicates the vendor is in New Zealand, as does the last two letters (nz) in the username of the poster. So I suspect we have a very old charger made for the international market. Since the poster stated that one of the two terminals on the top of the item in pictures 4 & 5 was broken off, we have a three terminal device. I believe the two terminal we can still see are the Anode (stud) and the Gate, so the Cathode terminal of the SCR is broken off. ------------ I don't have a schematic, or any information about this type charger in my stash. With some detailed pictures of the PC board and other inside areas, I might be able to figure out how it works, but only to the block diagram level, so figuring out what SCR to use isn't likely. -------------- Best bet would be to contact EZGO. |

Re: Ezgo Charger unknown and parts?
Hi everyone thankyou for all your help!
After a alot of phone calls i managed to find out the part, as was mentioned maybe it was a charger more specific to New Zealand and why i had more luck here. It is an SCR p/n: 50RIA60. Lets hope this is the problem. Thanks again Ross |
