Default differential input shaft removal

Due to extremely loud motor noise, I removed the motor on an 95 Medalist by reading previous threads on this site and all went well. The area around the input shaft was a mess, i.e. grease and oil. I removed the snap ring and now even though the shaft still turns with ease, it is noisy and has lots of play in it both up and down and sideways.

Now, my problem, I can't get the shaft to come out. it has play in it forward and back also, but even using channel locks and vise grips, as per the manual, I can't get it out. Please, hit me with ideas and any solutions you may have short of taking it in for the pros.

Did you pull the carrier out first?

There is a thread on tearing the rear down. Someone just reposted it last week. The thread it was reposted too is on this first page of posts I beleive, I just can't remember which one it was posted too? I'm sure someone will remember and link to it.

Does it have a freeze plug on the back side? If memory serves me, remove it to access snap ring #2

If you don']t want to buy new freeze plugs drill a small hole in it and install a sheet metal screw in it so you have something to pull on. Then patch up the hole and reinstall when done.

Welcome to BGW

some of those input shafts can be a bitch. to get out. I just looked at the link i posted, and he don't show removing the shaft. All you have to remove, to get the shaft out, is the C clip, and it comes out
