dcx400 controller question
I have recently gone form 36 volt to 48 volt on my 1997 ezgo. I have the dcx400 controller and wanted some input on settings.
I have pulled up the settings on my laptop but don't really understand what I should be looking for. The throttle curve part is pretty obvious but what about the other settings. If you have any recommendation that would be great. Why wouldn't I want the speed at max? What should I set the low voltage to? etc. Also while I am at it should the LED stay lite all the time on the controller. It always has since it was installed 36 volt and now 48 volt. Everything has always seemed to work fine just curious. Thanks in advance for the input. |

I think I can only answer one. I am pretty sure the light stays green as long as everything is ok.

A 1997 with a SepEx drive would be a DCS. Schematic for a DCX in a DCS cart attached.
The green LED should only be on when the Run/Tow is in Run, Keyswitch is ON and either F or R is selected on the direction selector. Otherwise, the controller should not be fully powered-up. (It will be partially powered-up as long as the Run/Tow is in Run, but the Green LED won't be on) To get the Green LED on, you have to have battery pack voltage on Pins 6, 9 & 10. The voltage on Pin-6 should go away when key is off or F/R is in neutral and the Green LED should go dark. Other than being a drain on the batteries, it probably doesn't hurt to have the controller fully powered-up all the time. Max speed is a user option that is provided for those who want or need less top speed. If you choose not to limit the speed, leave it at max. For 48V, the Under Voltage slider should be set to 36V. (1.5VPC x 24 cells) Over Voltage should be set to max. Attached is the way my DCX400 controller was originally set (for 36V). It is a good starting point, but you'll probably want to tweak the Throttle Up Rate and Brake Current to meet you taste. The Throttle Down Rate should be set to about twice the number the Up Rate is set to. At 48V, you'll probably want the Brake Current (Strength of regenerative braking) set to 90% or more. |
