Default Charging Advice

Looking for advice on charging my cart.

For the most part, I leave it out at the airport in my hangar. Usually only go out there on the weekends and I don't want to leave the cart unattended for extended periods while it is plugged in (over charging, fire hazard, etc.), so I normally only plug it in for a few hours on the weekend.

Would it be best to get a battery tender (trickle charger) and leave it plugged in during the week or does it matter.

I am just wanting to get the most life out of my batteries and don't want my charging habits to shorten the life or damage the batteries.

The only time my charger isn't plugged it is when I'm using the cart. Sometimes for weeks.

What charger are you using?

I'm not familiar with that charger. If others don't respond today, flag for the mods to move this thread to the Ezgo section for more hits.

Is a "Battery Tender" (trickle charger) a good idea? I friend of mine uses one when hes not using his regular charger. He says it keeps the batteries from losing its charge while just sitting and that its not a good idea to leave the regular charger on it after the batteries are fully charged.

Using a trickle charger isn't a bad idea AFTER the normal charger is finished. If your going to wait for hours for the bulk charge to finish before trickle charging, fine. The problem is, most folks don't wait. They think a week on the trickle charger is enough. Cart batteries are not a Crock Pot. They need the kick in the plates that the 16-20 amp charger gives them. A maintainer is too shallow of a charge.

what I would recommend would be to get a DPI battery charger.....not only will it charge your batteries properly.....after its done it has a tender function built into it.
