24 volt operation of a 36 volt golf car

I am a new member and glad I found this helpful site. I have a late 90's 36 volt EZ GO cart. I may have caused some self-inflicting damage but not sure. I wanted to make my cart slower for the grandkids so here is what I did. I removed one of the 12 volt batteries so it would run on only 24 volts thinkning that would slow it down for them. It ran for about 20 minutes and just quit. I still have full voltage at the batteries but it does not run. No click at the solenoid in F or R. In addition to that I installed a key switch in series with the "Run" of the Run/Tow switch. What if any damage was caused by reduced voltage or the location of the key switch? Sepex for that era = DCS drive...
I hate to tell you this but you killed the speed controller. This speed control had one fatal flaw. That was sudden death on low voltage. Bummer but, there is good news too. The new controller you need to get is XCT300 by Alltrax. It has a shift on the fly option so you can hide a speed dial and dial it back for Grandma or before the kids arrive.... any speed you like.

Sounds like he might of damage the DCS controller running it on 24 volts. And your saying that you had 3 - 12 volt batteries car batteries running the cart on 36 volts ?. And you removed one to run it on 24 volts. This cart runs on 36 volts, 6 - 6 volts golf cart batteries. DCS drive system does not like running on low volts.
