Default Universal Trailer Wiring

I want to hook up trailer lights to my 2010 RXV with headlights/taillights/turn and brake lights... but thought it best to ask the pros if I can just use a Universal Wiring Harness and wire directly to my rear lights or do i need to do something special. I can't imagine why i can't splice directly into the lights, but I'm much smarter than I used to be and thought it best to ask first. Thanks!

well YES you can.....HOWEVER, you will need a little extra something. You see a standard Universal Trailer hook-up wiring harness is made for regular cars/trucks that have a FRAME GROUNDED electrical system....your cart does not.....and the last thing you want to do is to ground ANYTHING to the frame. SO what you will need to do is to hook up a separate ground for the trailer lights assemblies to the ground within the carts tail lights.

yeah it truly isn't any different than wiring up one of your regular vehicles other than the ground stuff.

Should be a piece of cake as they say. Be sure to do something to fully seal moisture out at your splices, the tires spray water directly on those wires. And Please, please dont use those "scotch blocks" that you pinch on the wires with regular pliers (they create the most unreliable connections on earth).

they actually create a very good joint when used where they are designed to be used, ie, bell wire for telcos,

but otherwise i agree they are not practical for veicle flexible wiring.

These are what im talking about, and possibly the root of (most) all evil. Do Not Use These! When i get light wiring repair jobs with a bunch of these, i only offer the solution of a new light harness. Too much trouble diagnosing dozens of these things. By the time the labor is added up, it just doesnt pay to mess with these connectors.
