Disadvantage of Excel carts
Is there a disadvantage of an Excel cart over an IQ? Other than not being able to use the magnet? Or an advantage of an IQ over an Excel cart?. It seems most of the newer Precedents are Excel.

Re: Disadvantage of Excel carts
The disadvantage is that they are more expensive to implement speed upgrades..... They must be cheaper to build or something as pretty much all the parts are the same except for the wiring harness and controller....

You could always use a Curtis controller, and the Alltrax new line should hopefully work without tweaking. The existing Altrax line works with some tweaks. The bandit motor developed for the Excel system works better than the old IQ and I see folks recommending it here even if you have an IQ controller. Advantages: If You like Regen brake, the Excel is far superior and effective technology in this area. |

Re: Disadvantage of Excel carts
Is the controller user programmable? A Curtis 500a was suggested by one of the sponsors here and another said I should wait for the Alltrax because it would have more features and flexibility.

Re: Disadvantage of Excel carts
User programmable in the sense that one can purchase either the Curtis hand-held programmer and/or using a laptop with the proper patch cord. I'm not knowing enough of what software one would need for this....

Nothing free, the programming station software costs as much as the hand held programmer.

Re: Disadvantage of Excel carts
There is also a 350 amp controller available for the Excel That will help you keep the factory "feel" with a little bit more power.
