NOS clutch rusty, trash it or use it? Help!
I bought a new old stock club car clutch and the face where the belt rides is kinda rusted and pitted a lil bit. I would like to use it but don't want to if it will eat up my belt. See pic I took it apart and everything inside looks good, no rust.mused some dry graphite to lube it up in there. But the face looks iffy.
Or will it be fine like a brake disc on a car the pads wear the rust off. Will my belt do the same or will it wear the belt thinner quicker? Thanks for your input. Should i try sand paper or? Screenshot_2016-08-16-17-58-57.png |

I wouldn't worry about it. You could very lightly sand the rust off the sheaves but you probably don't need to. The sheaves simply grip the belt from the sides when you hit the gas and begin moving, resulting in the belt and the clutch locking together during operation. There isn't much constant moving friction there to worry about an inferior clutch surface damaging your belt, in my opinion.

Seen worse than that on a few after they sat all winter. It'll wear off in no time. Just grips the belt a little better until it wears off.
