Default Differences in Club car clutches

Just wanted to show you guys a couple of the dfferent clutches I have one is new the other is from a 98
I am curious why the new one has no balance holes drilled into it and the 98 has so many. Does that mean the new one was never balanced or did they start making them better balanced in the manufacturing process?

Club Car has 2 different drive clutches for 97-up carts, (according to my CC dealers website)
The standard DS/Precedent drive clutch... and an industrial FE350 drive clutch,
I know my Lynx has the industrial drive clutch, and I'd imagine that your Disney Carryall 6 should have one also!

That's pretty much why I suggested that you use the 290 clutch in your temporary engine swap thread.

The clutch on the carryall looks like these but I have yet to take it off. I bought the new Ds clutch to replace the one on the carryall in an effort to eliminate the rough jerky starts caused by the longer spring in the carryall clutch. I haven't done the swap yet.

If not worn too badly, in most cases drive clutches are repairable/rebuildable!
you might have asked about it before buying a new one!

Oh well... whats done is done.

No, I literally gave a hundred bucks for it. Couldn't pass that up. Before it came along I intended to change the spring, even ordered one.

The big flat washer has deep grooves worn into it and the buttons are quite worn on one side and the weights are all loose as hell n the brink of falling apart.

I put a Ds spring in it and used the new clutch face for now.
I must say taking that long green spring out of the drive clutch and replacing it with a stock dS spring makes all the difference in the world! No more rough jerky starts. It engages as soon as you hit the pedal and that's exactly what I was aiming for.

The only real difference is the spring.
I ran into the same question not long ago looking for a new clutch for a 350. The 350 clutches for some reason cost about $200 more than a 290 clutch. I've had both apart and the only difference I found is that spring in the middle. Ordered a new one from CPP and they put their upgrade spring in it. Things is smooth as butter when it engages.

I think it's a similar deal with the driven (rear) clutches. The only difference between the 1988-1996 driven clutch and the 1997-up driven clutch is the spring. The older one is oriented for a counterclockwise motor and the newer one is oriented for a clockwise motor. But the upgrade spring that CPP installs is unidirectional, so if you know you plan on upgrading the spring, you can go with either clutch.
