Gas Yamaha Drive Noisy
First post on here, be gentle with me. I have a friend with a gas Yamaha Drive, that is about a year old. There is a loud metalic type noise at cruising speed as long as accelerator is depressed. Let off the accelerator, the noise stops. it sounds like a heat shield vibration, but the heat shield is tight. If you ever drove a car that needed a higher octaine gas and it pinged when accelerating, that's what this sounds like. Anybody know if this is typical in a Yamaha Drive? If not typical, any ideas what it might be? Thanks

Thanks for responding. The welds on the heat shield seem fine. The noise sounds like a heat shield vibration, but doesn't seem to be. My friend took the cart back to the dealer and was told there wasn't anything wrong. Hard for me to believe that a fairly new cart should sound like this. I can't find anything loose and since it only does it while driving at full throttle it's hard to pin point the source. I was hoping that someone had experienced the same thing and could steer me in the right direction. Any chance it might be a timing type engine knock? Thanks |

Re: Gas Yamaha Drive Noisy
The Drive has a 3-4 year warranty......make dealer aware of problem and he has it on record, if he says no problem continue to drive it to see if it gets worse. unlikely it's a pinging problem but a quick check would be to put in a higher octane rated gas. If it's a ping noise should change between the 2 test drives............. just my $.02 for free

Re: Gas Yamaha Drive Noisy
I too have a Yamaha 2004 g22 that has developed some sort of noise coming from the gearbox. If cruising and shifting the transmission into nuetral (between forward and reverse) the noise stops. It is past the warantee or I would call the dealer. Does anyone know of an online service manual, since the hardcopy is over $200. and I hate to get into it without a manual.
