Default Battery impedence prob?

48V 2000 club car carry-all6.has six 8V batts.had an issue where charger would not kick on even tho pack was showing 47.8V.So i hook another known good charger and it starts humming, but amp meter stays at zero,so i measure charging voltage and it is around 60V but real unstable.so i start measuring individual batts and find one at 17V!!!!.never seen this in past,so just curious..internally shorted??
replaced Batt and all is fine now

Never seen one read that high but I have seen a 12 volt battery that was dead as a doornail (amp wize) read somewhere around 15 volts...

You are correct, bad batteries develop a high internal impedance, that causes the battery voltgage to be high during charge and also prevents current flow during use.

The battery that has 60V across it during charge has an open cell in it. I have seen them fail that way a few times.

thanks guys
the bad batt measuered an unstable 17V while charger was hooked up.
the whole pack went to 60V (unstable) instantly when i plugged in charger in which i knew was not normal.
thanks again

But wait, you know you just can't replace one battery. And impedance is for AC circuits.
