I tried the diode rig job on a forklift once that had the same problem, it worked, for a few days then burned the diode. Forklift was super old & hard/expensive to find parts for, hence the rig job. Ended up fixing it right way. And the "stop solenoid" mentioned only exists on G16 and newer carts, not G9.

IIRC the VR fails and is able to power the white/red wire that runs everything.

Well, there's your problem. Try putting some gas in it......

I do not understand...

CGTech

If I understood, the voltage regulator is receiving the + signal from the RW and depending of the voltage level, apply (or not) a - signal on the GREEN to the starter, am I right?

In such case, where a backfeed can come from if the RW is cut by the throttle switch and/or the main switch (with key)?

To be frank, I start to have the trouble but I am waiting a new ignition coil (no firing when hot), so it can be linked also. By the way, I am interested to "isolate" what can be once the switch is off. I changed my VR last year and succeeded to find the adjustable VR I absolutely want to keep (at 15.5V, the electronic is too high for me).

You need to run a ground wire from the negative battery to the engine block.
Some place in all that wiring mess on the engine pan is a bad ground connection. I work on a Clublink golf course, and 155 assorted golf carts to look after, and 2 of them are G-9s.
They both developed tis problem. I sept hours checking all the relevant switches, solenoid, VR, (out of cart bench test}, and this was this was the only solution.
These carts have been obsoleted by Yamaha years ago.
But these are nice carts!
Gary.
