Re: Just picked up a 1968 Pargo and could use some info.
Just pulled it off the charger and 5 batteries are over 6 volts. One is 5.22 volts. Total volts is 39.9. ??? FYI my meter is a cheap one from Harbor Freight so probably not 100% accurate.
Ill check again tonight to see if they degrade. Also I noticed when I took off the charger I could hear bubbling. I know they bubble when charging but it seems pretty loud. Is that normal? |

Re: Just picked up a 1968 Pargo and could use some info.
If your batteries are dead after 20 minutes of driving, then when you hook up the charger, it should be outputting atleast 15 amps or more to the batteries in its initial bulk charge for the first 1-2 hours and go down from there to the 4-8 amps that you have been seeing. You may of mentioned it, but I did not see it. How old are the batteries? Is there corrosion? Do they have any signs of bulging at the sides?

Re: Just picked up a 1968 Pargo and could use some info.
As soon as I plug in the charger it climes to about 10 amps then within 30 seconds it drops to around 6 amps.
Im not sure how old the batteries are. Last owner said he changed them in stages. I can see bulging on 3 batteries. I cant really see the sides of the other 3 without pulling off the body. I tested again just now and the 5 that were above 6V have all dropped a little. Now they are 5.9 to 6.2. The one battery that was 5.22 has gone up to 6.4. Attached are photos of all the batteries. They look pretty clean but a few have minor corrosion. |

Suggestions...
So Ive got a few options. I need them to last at least 8-15 miles/about 2 hours plus and we have small hills everywhere around here. Nothing major just small rolling hills. 6pcs Interstate = about $900 w/ exchange 6pcs Powertron = $450 w/ exchange 6pcs Trojan T105 = $630 w/ exchang They also have 8V batteries. Can I use these without modding the cart??? 6pcs 8v Powertron = $510 w/ exchange 6pcs 8v Trojan T875 = $640 w/ exchange |

I would say they are shot. Dealing with the same thing with a cart I just bought.
Check the amp hours for the batteries you checked on. Stay with 36 volt ! I have interstate in my club car for 3 years no problems. Trogens are great batteries but with the price difference as mentioned check the ratings. Interstate are 120.00 in Delaware. I just bought Duracell from sams for a cart I flipped but not familiar long term. $98.00 each |

Re: Just picked up a 1968 Pargo and could use some info.
Just got back for the Interstate shop and the guy there had something pretty interesting to share. He said that Trojan makes there batteries and the T105 is pretty much the same exact battery as there top of the line GC2 battery.
Same specs 225 AH at 20 hours. Now can someone please explain what the hell 225 AH at 20 hours actually means. I get the 225 Amp Hours but how does that relate to the 20 hours spec? |

Re: Just picked up a 1968 Pargo and could use some info.
The difference a new set of batteries makes. I picked up a full set of Trojan T105 for $630 + tax. I had to drive to the distributor but thats a pretty good price so no big deal.
Runs so much better and is charging normal now. Ill post pics tomorrow. |
