Re: Best Cleaning Chemical for Batteries, Connections
Baking soda and water for battery tops & cables, plain water (or soapy water with good final rinse) for the rest. Many solenoids are totally weather tight, but not all (Curtis/Albright is an example of "not totally sealed").

Re: Best Cleaning Chemical for Batteries, Connections
They sell battery cleaner at auto stores. Spray it on, scrub with a small brush and rinse off with clean water. Unlike baking soda which will leave a powdery residue in the battery compartment.

Re: Best Cleaning Chemical for Batteries, Connections
A good rinse is key. I have never seen anything in a can that did as good of a job as baking soda & water.

Re: Best Cleaning Chemical for Batteries, Connections
Thanks for Response...Would it be necessary to disconnect power supply from all batteries first?

Re: Best Cleaning Chemical for Batteries, Connections
Baking soda and bicarbonate of soda are different names for the same thing. Bicarbonate of soda is the main ingredient in my spray on cleaner, with propane water, and few other corrosion dissolving goodies. Deka Spay on - hose off. Repeat spray and brush for stubborn spots. Try it - you'll like it

Re: Best Cleaning Chemical for Batteries, Connections
When you have your terminals and cable ends all spiffy (yes...."spiffy" is a technical term) consider slathering (apply using finger on terminals before you bolt on the cable....then slather the cable ends completely) on this product:
I purchased this at Home Depot. This is the closest thing I've found to almost....and like 99%.....completely eliminating the battery terminal "giant green goobers" from forming. Really good stuff!! |
