Front wheels turn out on bumps
We bought a 1998 EZGI TXT a year ago. It is lifted by reverse leaf springs and big tires. We use it 90% off-road (we race motocross so it’s used for getting around at the track). We don’t do any serious off-road, just in grass, dirt and uneven ground. The kids broke a tooth off the spline for the steering so I replaced the entire steering assembly. Everything worked great for a few weeks until this last weekend when I was trying to load it in the toy hauler 5th wheel. The incline on the ramp was pretty steep, but I went really slow. All of a sudden the steering wheel/column starts to bent forward towards the front cowl. I stopped immediately and backed down the ramp. I slowly moved up the ramp again so my son could watch and see what was happening. He said the wheels were trying to turn away from each other. We got it home and I drove it down the highway. It kind of wanders now and when driving up the curb in my driveway both tires turn out away from each other. I tore the front end apart and I can’t really see anything that is bent or anything. Ideas? Tie rod ends bent?
Does anyone make heavy duty tie rods/ends? Would a long arm kit fix the issue? Also, what can be done about the extremely long turning radius? Thanks everyone!!!! |

Re: Front wheels turn out on bumps
Upon more research, it would appear this is a drop axle lift kit. So now at least I know what parts I am looking at. lol! The big question is why are the wheels able to turn opposite of each other and how to fix it.

Welcome to BGW!
Your tie rod is messed up somehow. Get under there and give it a pull in every direction. I suspect it will come off in your hand. |

Everything feels tight, but that was my thought as well. Just wasn't sure how these things work given the limited amount of support under the front end. I'll order new tie rod ends and see where that takes me. |

Re: Front wheels turn out on bumps
Do a front end alignment.
The tires should “toe in” when straight. Meaning distance between front of tires should be 1/8” closer then distance between rear of front tires. This is toe in. This cause’s Steering to be stable. Toe out the opposite cause’s cArt to wander, steering twitchy. |
