2007 YDRA engine help please!!
I have my father in laws cart that was making some pretty decent rattling noise last summer. I looked at it as I’ve seen and replaced the crappy Team clutches so I got him the kit and installed. Clutches were toast so I figured noise would be gone. Nope. Engines making a rattling noise still. I removed the engine and tire down. Nothing jumped out at me, piston to cylinder seemed ok, intake valve worn, basic wear and tear. I plasti gauged the rod, in spec. I re ringed and replaced valves, gaskets etc. put it together and same engine noise!! Removed and diss again and can’t seem to figure it out. Can anyone offer any suggestions on this?? Any help would be appreciated.

You might want to talk to Don Plowman as he points out that engines uses straight gears for the cam/balance shaft mesh and that results in problems in engines that are rebuilt without addressing that issue.

You know what I think you are on to something, I just noticed quite a bit of wear on the camshaft drive gear on the crank teeth. That for sure could be causing the chattering noise.
Ill reach out to Don too. Thanx Shad |

Have you come up with an answer to the noise problem?
I just bought an '09 and its making plenty of noise also. I was hoping to learn something from you post. Valves adjusted, carb cleaned, my governor doesn't appear to be working, hopefully previous owner didn't damage the engine. |

Re: 2007 YDRA engine help please!!
Is it a "rattling noise" ? First check the muffler heat shielding. The tack are bad at best. Also the starter generator bracket (normally on the the driverside) would break at the wel and give a rattling noise. Good luck.

Re: 2007 YDRA engine help please!!
Is the rattle coming from the top of the head or deeper in the center of the engine?
If its the top of the head, the bore for the rocker arm shaft and possibly the shaft is worn. This makes a ticking/rattle noise as if the valves were out of adjustment. The fix is a new cylinder head and maybe the rocker arm shaft. The camshaft/crank gears will give you more of a knocking sound in the center of the engine. You cant replace one. You have to do them together. |
