I have the 11.5hp (FE350) in my 07 Lynx, and I have mine set in that range! And, I'm getting 32.4 MPH with 25" tires! so... needless to say... I have some concerns on what your "actual" RPM'S are, If you have a lift, and what size tires you have on it! It's always been to my understanding that: The max RPM's for the FE290 (9.0hp) can max to 4000 RPM'S (stock) and, the FE350 (11.5hp) can max to 4200 RPM'S (stock) Before the valves start to "float"! (and that's NOT a good thing!) When I run my cart... it's in "short spurts" (1/10th of a mile) then, I let up on the "Go" pedal, Any "long term" runs at those high RPM's (a 1/2 a mile or more) may cause damage to your engine! (floating valves, lack of oil circulation, and engine overheating) If, by chance, you are running over the max RPM's, you can "literaly" hear the engine topping out! Back off on the throttle and readjust it to a slightly lower RPM, If you don't, and you, or someone else drives your cart without knowing the limits, you'll have a fried engine, and a puddle of oil underneath it! Have fun! But most of all... Be careful! |

Re: 3600 Rpm
ok thenif thats the limit, thenisnt the rpm limiter set to 3500 on the 350? and if thats the case adjust away and keep the limiter on so it will not allow the engine to run away. like most of us, we are not the only one to drive our carts, so i like the added feeling that i can turn my governor on and off, so when little hands get a hold of it its at a safe pace for them too. but when i have it, it goes my speed.

Re: 3600 Rpm
Well I have no lift and 12" rims with 18" tires on this cart. Right now the governor will shut her down when I reach the 3600RPM relm. I am just wondering if going with the 4400 RPM range will hurt it. How much speed would the extra 800RPM get me? Is it worth the wonder.

(and that's not good for your engine to do that either! and there is a way to bypass it!) Well... with no lift, your engine sits level, so the oil will circulate better (at a somewhat higher rpm) BUT... with 18" tires, you won't get that speed!!! (the larger the tire, you'll have a higher top speed!) I would suggest not going over 4200 RPM's unless you modify your engine to handle it! The extra 600 RPM's will be a noticeable difference! but... still won't get you to the 31.5 mph you say you have with 18" tires! Try this... (it's fairly accurate!) http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/speed-calculator.php 3600 rpm's, final gear ratio 11, and 18" tires = 17.5 mph 4200 rpm's, final gear ratio 11, and 18" tires = 20.4 mph Neither one of those come close to 31.5 mph, and that's why I questioned it! (because I thought, I was missing something with my cart! ) Recheck your cart, and... your buddies cart with a GPS, at those speeds, RPM's, and stock engines... Something doesn't jive! (and I already know what the next question will be... ) |

Re: 3600 Rpm
The speed that I mentioned (31.5) was done via GPS. That was the fastest we got it. It probably averaged 30-30.5 through the trip. The shop I bought the cart from said they set it at 3600RPM. Without a tachometer how would I go about checking the Rpms.

Re: 3600 Rpm
I set mine with a car tachometer that I "used to use" when I "used to" work on cars!
But for some reason... something still doesn't jive! If your getting that speed with 18" tires, and I'm getting 1 mph over that with 25" tires, I MUST be missing something! |

Re: 3600 Rpm
I don't know. I have the high speed rear end and 12" rims using 18" -18.5 tires. Other than that there has been adjustments to gov and revlimiter. I am going to put a tach on it. I will let you know I would like to get more speed.
