Default Re: Jake's brake question

I've had a set of Jake's on the front of my EZ-GO for about 3 years now. They are great and work very well for stopping my cart on these hills of Southwestern Pa.

My cart is used exclusively for hunting....and believe me....I go up and down some hills!!!

My biggest "squeaks" come from the factory drum brakes. I plan on upgrading those to some aftermarket disc to eliminate that squeak soon.

Factory drums rarely squeak .... you may have some metal to metal action going on there?

I go thru a lot of water where I hunt. Shallow creeks and places where it is just plain "mushy". Then my cart is trailored, and I back it into a heated garage at nite. (usually the garage is at 60 degrees)

Now, if I take my cart out the next day...or in a few days, in order to get rid of the brake squeak, I will do a fast back-up and hit the brakes (a brake adjustment) maybe two to three times. This will usually take out any surface rust that i believe is the cause of said squeak.

At least.....that's my thinking on it.

I have yet to pull the drums.....because of my disabiliity i usually don't have the energy....and if the drums don't practically fall off....I won't get it done myself. So, that means I have to call in help.....which is a PITA at times. So....right now this works. I'll save the help for installing disc.
