SOC meter adjustment.
This is probably a question for " JohnnieB ", but anyone feel free to chime in! In a previous post we were discussing adjustments to the SOC meter by adding some resistance to the circuit ( meter reads high ). Quite by accident, I was moving some things around on the front shelf of my cart and one of these items is a small magnet. I swung this over my dashboard and viola SOC needle moves! I found that I can put the magnet in a certain place ( to the right of the meter )on the dash and it puts the needle right into the top of the green area on the gauge, where it is supposed to be for the battery pack voltage! Ok, is this going to harm the gauge, and will it still read correctly if it is not harmed? If this is Ok to do, what an easy way to adjust an analog gauge!

Re: SOC meter adjustment.
Here's the basic D'Arsonval meter movement. The spring (green line) tries to keep the pointer counterclockwise and current through the coil tries to deflect it clockwise.
You add resistance in series with the coil to make it a voltmeter and shunt the coil to make it an ammeter. If you mess with the magnet, you'll change the sensitivity and linearity. (Not that it matters too much for a SOC meter ) Have a Happy Thanksgiving you guys.... |

The magnet's been put back over on the right side of the dash, well away from the dash panel! |
