Default My motor runs, but my cart barely moves.

So I recently got what I assume is a 1991 year model 36 volt Ezgo(91 is the last two digits on the manufacturing code). The cart barely moves forward or reverse, but the motor is defiantly running. I checked the batteries and found I have two low batteries, one reading 2.4 volts and one reading 4.8 volts. The cart is pretty rough and needs significant work done to it. To get to the point I'm wondering if this issue is due low batteries, or possibly a controller or motor break. I have never had a 36 volt cart, and I just don't want invest more than needed on this one. Would replacing the two low batteries possibly fix this cart?

Have you checked the water level and charged the batteries? First make sure water just covers over the plates, then charge overnight. Here's a chart to help you determine the state of charge ( soc ). The two batteries that are low readings are probably bad, but charge and then see what happens.

Yeah I had the cart plugged for several days. I've even disconnected the two low batteries and tryed charging them one at a time with a 6volt charger.

So, I charged all the batteries and still no movement from the cart. The low batteries drop way down under load(2.1volts). Could this cause the cart not to move at all?

Yes, what condition are the rest of the batteries?

Agreed! One bad battery can stop the cart from moving, 2 bad batteries will definitely keep it at home.

Thanks for the info. As for the other four batteries, they read about 6.5 volts, 6.1 when loaded.

How old are the other four batteries? If they are trojans look on the neg terminal there should be a letter followed by a number ie, B9.

They were made in Oct of 04, hate to break this to you, but you should look at getting a whole new set of BATTERIES. Most batts make it about 4-6 years depending on how they were taken care of.
