Re: 1999 ezgo dcs
DCS (drive control system) introduced in the mid to late '90s. Evolved into the PDS (precision drive system) in 2000-2001. DCS carts are identified by a F/R switch by the drivers right knee and a run/tow switch on the controller under the seat on the passenger side. These are sepex carts so series wound motors or controllers for series carts are not compatible. Controllers in the DCS carts are fragile and don't like low voltage. Don't run the batteries into deep discharge. Aftermarket controllers are not as fragile but when shopping for them make sure they are compatible.
Word is DCS carts make more torque than series carts and more speed than PDS. So with an aftermarket controller they can be stout. I have no personal experience with them. Make sure run/tow switch is in "tow" when doing any maintenance or when towing the cart. |

Re: 1999 ezgo dcs
Pretty good kernal, I would like to add just a few things to that. DCS first appeared in 1995. The new type of separately excited motor easily made more speed than the series motors and maintained a lot of the series motor torque... It looked like the perfect system until Joe public got a hold of it and started running the battery pack low on voltage. This created a high amperage draw situation which heated up and fried the control.
This problem was solved with a low voltage cutoff feature featured in the next generation = 2000 PDS which was a failed system, replaced by our current PDS system in 2001. Some aftermarket DCS controls have low voltage cut off and high amperage output... I like the DCS carts. They produce more speed than a series cart and more torque than PDS. |
