Default F&R/Blue controller wire operation

Guys

I am trying to understand the power signal flow to the motor on 96 CC Powerdrive with series motor. I understand when the solenoid is activated the green wire from controller to A1 of motor is hot at pack voltage, since A1 and A2 should have continuity the white wire off of motor back to F&R switch should have pack voltage. Now depending on if the switch is in FWD or Reverse either S1 or S2 (orange or blue from F&R switch) will have voltage. My question is, what is the purpose of the 4th wire, blue from M- to F&R switch? Is it simply the "ground"?

Is M- of the controller a "ground"?

Thanks

M- is the negative output side of the controller...thats the one that is being switched on and off thousands of times a second. (15-20khz or so) The motor doesn't function like a regular dc magnet motor though...there is no "ground" per say. The F/R switch is flipping the polarity of the field coils.

You have B+, B-, M- and sometimes A2.
