Motor getting warm
We have a 1990 Marathon Cart. This weekend we installed a higher torque motor, larger Altrax Controller, Solenoid, and F/R switch. We bought the whole kit at Buggies Unlimited.
It is super fast and climbs hills like crazy. My husband is a little worried because the new motor seems to be getting warm. Is that a problem? |

Re: Motor getting warm
Warm is normal. The upgrades will cause it to get warmer than stock. I've read on here that as long as you can keep your hand on it without burning your hand, it's OK......
Someone more knowledgeable will chime in soon..... |

Re: Motor getting warm
I suspect the cart has tall tires also.
When an electric motor is developing a lot of torque, (Turning tall tires, accelerating to top speed rapidly, climbing steep hills, Etc.) a lot of amps are passing through it and the amps not being converted to RPM are converted to heat. What makes the cart "super fast and climbs hills like crazy" also makes the motor get hot. Getting "warm" isn't a problem. Getting too hot to touch doesn't necessarily mean to motor is getting too hot, but it does suggest the motor temperature needs to be monitored by some means. Stay below the boiling point of water. |
