Default Alltrax controller blowed up

Went to get on my cart today and turned the switch on and everything worked and it moved 2 inches and pow.

It popped and smoke rolled.

Now the question is what do i do.

I have a dcx-400. 14 inch wheels 205 lo pro tires.

Should i get another brand controller or go back with the dcx500?

The controller never gets hot but idk what happened.

The motor is stock. I ride it a 1/2 mile everyday to work. Just me.

Any sugestions?

Call Alltrax if it is under warranty they will replace it, i have had this happen before and I finally determine that there was a lightening strike that led to a power surge through the charger and into the controller, took two batteries with it.

For an Ezgo PDS there is no better controller than the Alltrax - You might want to test your motor and your motor cables before you try another controller. If you have a short you could blow a replacement control in a nano second.

Whats the proper way to test the motor? Ohm out the field wires and the big motor windings? What kinda readings should i see? Its been really cold here like 9 degrees yesterday morning and 14 this morning but it ran both days. It was 44 today when it blowed out.

Im thinking the 500 amp will be over kill for me but im thinking that is best. Rather have too much than not enough

A 500 amp is not overkill, I won't run anything but a 500amp.

Go to this thread and check out post #6 This thread is about a Club Car, but it's the exact same procedure. On the diagram follow, the cabling for the Shunt/Regen motor, there is also a note about continuity testing your motor.

Also, is this a stock PDS motor or do you have an aftermarket motor?

Ok, just be aware that you have to program the DCX controller to the specific motor it is running so be aware that so you don't blow ip another controller some day.

Yea i still have the pds map that alltrax sent me when i got the 400 amp controller.

Should i limit the amps or keep it at 100 percent on the stock motor?
