Is that a voltage reducer or a voltage converter? I thought I once seen one of those but it converted 16-18v(2x8v or 3x6v) to 12v.

Searched web but this is all I found.

I believe it is a reducer. Using resistance to lower voltage need heat sink to dissipate lost voltage. Converters use step down transformer to reduce voltage. No heat sink needed.

On the subject, does drop the voltage from 16 volts to 12 volts? And if so, does anyone foresee any issues of hooking my radio to this same point?

The only thing,rotate the two batteries that you are pulling the 16 volts out of. Hook the wires to two different batteries about every two months.

That is good advice. I'm ordering a converter, but just haven't had enough time to get it ordered yet. So I was going to go this route, until.
